VISION

The world needs new ways to make fuels, fertilizers, and commodity chemicals without burning fossil fuels. We believe that carefully designed molecules at the interface of chemistry and electricity are a powerful tool for getting there.

MISSION

The Machan Group designs and studies molecular electrocatalysts: small, precisely constructed metal complexes that drive the kinds of chemical reactions a clean energy economy depends on. We don't just build these molecules; we study how they work, using electrochemistry and spectroscopy together to watch catalysis happen in real time. That mechanistic understanding is what allows us to improve them deliberately, rather than by trial and error.
