Equipment and Instruments
The Machan group operates a purpose-built suite of electrochemical and spectroscopic instrumentation centered on understanding molecular catalysis mechanistically. Highlights include custom spectroelectrochemical cells for simultaneous electrochemical and optical measurements, a cryo-capable stopped-flow IR/UV-vis system for observing reaction intermediates directly, a multi-wavelength Raman system, and five potentiostats including bipotentiostats with high-current boosters for bulk electrolysis and flow cell experiments. Air-sensitive synthesis is supported by two double gloveboxes and a seven-solvent purification system, with GC-MS, ion chromatography, and ATR-IR for product analysis.
